This great blue heron greeted us right outside Sue & Glen's back window just about as soon as we got to their house at Lake Weiss, Alabama. Remember when Steve begged you to stop the car on our way to supper so he could take a picture of the beautiful sky? We're at the Little River Canyon National Preserve, a beautiful park and there is much more of it for us to see another time! (Sue, Glen, and Steve). Steve stalking the falls. Mary and the Little River Falls. The Little River Falls. I'm a sucker for wildflowers. This is a jasmine vine just growing wild! Glen, Sue, and Mary. Glen and Sue and the falls. Steve and Mary and the falls. DeSoto State Park, also near Lake Weiss. And more waterfalls! No, I didn't climb up there, Steve climbed down. Sue and Mary next to DeSoto Falls. Steve and Mary. Steve, that jaunty guy. Glen, Sue, and Mary. It was mesmerizing. Glen and Sue. Glen, Sue, and Mary. The dam, and more falls at DeSoto that I don't know the name of. When we got back to the lake house, there was a large *flock* of anhinga's - ducklike birds that swim with most of their body submerged, just their head and neck above water - we had never seen more than one or two at a time anywhere! A hotel / restaurant / meeting center on the edge of the lake, built to look like a giant riverboat! A view of Sue & Glen's house from their boat dock. It was beautiful. A purple martin enjoys Sue & Glen's boat and dock - hope his manners were good... Sue and Glen in front of the living room window with all those good views! One additional bird we spied as we were leaving the lake - still haven't identified him!
